We will examine the idea that in order to meet the needs of our learners, today's teacher must be strong, determined, and heroic. Teaching is not for the faint of heart. If you are strong enough to teach-speak out and let your voice be heard!

Teachers are Brave
Another wonderful article by Graysen Walles entitled, "Teachers are Brave".
I couldn't agree more with this article. It truly speaks to so many students that I teach everyday. SOmetimes they do things or wear things or act a certian way because they want to fit in or feel a part of something. I hear so many teachers and early in my career I might have even said from time to time, "I am not their parent they are not my responsibility." It is apparent now more than ever that the unfortunate part is that they are our responsibility and that if you give them a chance and allow them to open up and be themselves that 9 out of 10 times they are someone that you really want to get to know. Great article.
I am a Professor of Education with an intense interest in supporting teachers. I have 11 years of experience as a classroom teacher and assistant principal in both elementary and middle schools and I was a teacher trainer for two years before finding my true calling in higher education 10 years ago. In addition to teaching, I love to write textbook supplements like teacher resource guides, test banks and student study guides. Most of my publications are with Pearson Publishing in the areas of Educational Psychology and Introduction to Teaching although I have written Educational Research supplements and provided website material for various Pearson products.
I am married and have two wonderful young daughters who make the need for great teachers crystal clear! So here's to hoping you will teach my kids someday!
(I also participate in pet rescue and fostering so my house is pretty crazy sometimes!)
